Drawing in the Galleries: Edmonia Lewis

Join Luke Graves for a one-day figure drawing workshop inspired by the sculpture of Edmonia Lewis. Participants will draw from sculptural references while focusing on proportion, gesture and the translation of three-dimensional form using line and value. Emphasis will be placed on observing structure, light and shadow to build convincing, expressive figures. Through guided demonstrations and individual feedback, artists will develop both technical skills and a deeper understanding of form.
Luke Graves is an Athens-based artist and instructor. While his primary focus is portrait and figure painting, he also has a background in sculpture, including metal casting and clay. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree with a concentration in sculpture and a minor in drawing and painting.
