New Mills Festival is thrilled to announce our second DRAW! competition.
What’s it all about? Well, on Saturday 13th September, anyone and everyone is invited to come along and draw (or paint or collage) the lovely town of New Mills. The only rule, really, is that you make your drawing/sketch/painting on location. Which bit of the town would you choose draw? Would you like to sketch the hustle and bustle of Market Street, or paint something with a little more greenery, eg, in the Torrs? Artists of all ages and abilities can take part, and there are prizes for the winners (See categories below).
The winners of each category will be chosen by members of the public, between 4pm and 4:45pm, with the winners announced at 5pm.
On the day: You’ll need to register your blank canvas/paper at Rock Mill Centre between 9:30 am and 11:00 am, where it’ll be stamped on the back. Entries cost £5 for adults Under 16s can enter for Free.
Head out into town with your own art supplies and get creating! There are plenty of café’s in town for those essential breaks throughout the day.
Adults: Bring your completed artwork back to the Rock Mill Centre by 3:45pm. Make sure you don’t sign your artwork as all work needs to be judged anonymously.
Under16s: Bring your completed artwork to Arts-Co, New Mills’ brand new children’s art studio! Artwork needs to be returned by 3:45pm but please bear in mind the Free Arty Party happening between 1:30 – 3:30 at the Arts-Co premises may mean you need to be patient on returning artwork during those times.
Artwork may be completed in any medium: acrylic, oils, watercolour, ink, pastels, or any mixed media. Entries must be original done on the day, prints will not be accepted.
Artists may frame their artwork or put it in their own card mount. Artwork must NOT be signed on the front but adults may put a price next to their work if it’s for sale.
Prizes:
1st prize (adult) – £250
1st prize under 11 – Art materials goody bag and voucher
1st prize 11- 16 yrs – Art materials goody bag and voucher
Prize giving will be in The Rock Mill Centre at 5:00 pm for both adults and Under 16s categories.
Entrants’ copy and data protection rights:
New Mills Festival organisers may photograph competitors working on the day.
All copyright remains with the artist, unless otherwise assigned in writing.
In administering the competition, the organisers collect names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses.
The vibrant town of New Mills is set in an area of spectacular natural beauty, standing high above a natural rocky gorge known as The Torrs, where the River Sett joins the River Goyt. The town also possesses impressive viaducts and many historic buildings.
There is some street parking but much of it is for one hour only. There is public parking at Torr Top, Market Street, The Town Hall, and at Newtown and Central Stations. Charges apply.
