Dramatist Theme Park - 7 Rides - New One-Act Plays

Dramatists’ Theme Park: Seven Rides will be on stage at Studio Theater in Exile @ Hudson Valley MOCA, 1701 Main Street, Peekskill. NY 10566, February 14th- 16th and February 21st- 23rd. Fridays at 7:00, Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00.

Mara Mills, Artistic Director of STIE said “An important mission of Studio Theater in Exile is to develop and produce new works and present opportunities for actors, playwrights and directors in our community. A Short play program isa chance for old and new directors to take risks with interpretation, for actors and directors to work together as a repertory company, and to collaborate with playwrights.”

“The format also highlights how directors can imaginatively use minimalist set pieces and projection to construct the plays’ environment,” added Jeremy Gratt. STIE producer, who designs many of STIE’s productions.

The short play series submission garnered over 200 plays out of which 7 were chosen. From parents trying to sign up for child’s summer camp to an absurdist vision of survey-taking, the plays have a surrealist vision and reflect the truth and irony of our times.

The directors, Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland based, include Julia La Verde, Irvington; Quint Spitzer, New Rochelle; Derek Tarson, Nyack; George Croom, Mt. Vernon: Ed Friedman, Peekskill; Phil Garfinkel, New Rochelle, and Melanie Armer, Carmel. Phil Garfinkle is the co-producer on this series. The ensemble of actors hail from Stormville to Yonkers.
