Sunday, September 28, 2025 – Starting around 1:00 PM, Meetinghouse Green, Ipswich, MAThe Devil’s Footprint legend comes roaring back to life in a brand-new way.
This is not just a retelling of George Whitefield’s 1740 sermon. It is a modern-day battle of Whitefield vs. the Devil, reimagined for today. With theater, movement, and a few unexpected twists, the performance brings the folklore into conversation with changing social views and the challenges we face now.
And yes, the Devil may just get their due. A certain piñata could make an appearance, though how long it lasts and whether the audience gets involved remains to be seen.
Family friendly, spirited, and unforgettable, the reenactment is presented by Members and Friends of the First Church in Ipswich, UCC, with support from Mark Warner’s Professional Martial Arts Academy.
Free and open to all. Bring a chair or blanket and get ready for the clash of history, myth, and imagination.
