UTC+01:00Location
The Bellringer Eaton Park | Stoke On Trent, EN
His lecture will explore the darker side of higher education taking a deep dive into the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit (CCRU) at Warwick University. The CCRU was an experimental cultural theorist collective that existed from 1995 -2003.
The CCRU blended music, philosophy, politics, magick and culture. The dissolution of the CCRU has led to it becoming part of the folk story of the academy. The CCRU has developed a cult like status online, due to its blend of cyberpunk, gothic horror, accelerationist politics and occult practices.
The talk will explore not only the history of the CCRU but also its key figures Sadie Plant, Nick Land and Mark Fisher. Darren will also look in depth at the concepts of hypersition as an occult practice and the dark enlightenment as a philosophical position.
