On May 15th, 2024, join us for a small-group learning session with Dr. Elaine Ingham of the Soil Food Web program on the beautiful campus of Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Virginia.
This all-day workshop will focus on teaching farmers and gardeners about the different types of organisms living in their soil and how to nurture them as part of their garden's natural ecosystem. Dr. Ingham will also show us how to prepare, build and properly finish a compost pile so come get your hands dirty and learn your worms!
Lunch will be provided. Requests made upon registration.
In the morning session, participants will be making an active compost pile with Dr. Ingham and discussing the important details of making good compost, so dress accordingly. In the afternoon we will go into the microscopy lab and participants will have the opportunity to observe and identify soil and compost microbes that are crucial to food production, guided by Dr. Ingham and the Soil Food Web staff.
