Fred MacMurray stars as a hardened insurance investigator who falls for a married woman, played by Barbara Stanwyck in one of the great screen performances. The two conspire to get Stanwyck’s character out of her marriage and for both to come into a fortune, but, with Edward G. Robinson’s insurance boss sniffing around, the plot begins to crumble.
