"Build a Better Dragon" challenges K-12 youth to use lessons in animal adaptation and morphology to use science to design their own dragons
About this Event

We're so excited to launch this fall's Dorchester County 4-H Annual Garden Series: "Build a Better Dragon" in partnership with Katie's Krops.
Youth in grades K-12 will be split up by age and learn from local scientists, Clemson Extension agents, farmers, and nature enthusiasts about the science of animal adaptation, anatomy, and morphology (study of form and structure).
Has your child ever wondered why certain birds have one type of beak while others look and function differently? Are they interested in why certain animals can fly longer, higher, or more quietly than others and how wings work? Have they ever asked about dinosaurs?

We answer questions like these and more! Meetings will be cumulative and families are encouraged to attend as many as possible to not miss valuable information. Youth will have the opportunity to show off their dragon designs and present to a panel of local wildlife professionals for feedback!
Meetings will be Tuesdays from 10:30a-12p at the Katie's Krops flagship garden on the following dates:
Tues, Sept. 8
Tues, Sept. 22
Tues, Oct. 20
Tues, Nov. 3
Tues, Nov. 17
Tues, Dec. 8

Contact Dorchester Count 4-H Agent Tawanah Reeves-Ligon at [email protected] or 864-784-0516 to learn more.

A couple of quick reminders for all garden visitors:

• Closed toe shoes are required in the garden for all guests for everyone's safety.
• There is not a restroom in the flagship garden. Please note: the church facilities are often closed on Fridays.
• We ask that all visitors read and follow the posted rules when they arrive (including no running, as there are many tripping hazards).
Directions:
• If this is your first time visiting us, the garden is located at 505 Gahagan Road in Summerville on the campus of Crossroads Community Church. The garden is at the rear of the church (behind buildings B and C). Follow the paved drive until the end when you reach the flagpole. Bear right onto the gravel drive, which will lead you around back to the garden where you will find parking.
