About this Event
With real wars currently being fought, should we really be ‘fighting’ culture wars? Can words hurt as much as sticks and stones and missiles, and do we really need to be afraid of Virginia Woolf? With a literary focus, this talk will highlight some of the issues raised by banning books and alternative voices and will consider how we can balance out important cultural discussions and still appreciate authors contexts.
Dr. Julia Firmin previously taught American Literature at the University of Essex, and English for Academic Purposes at Lancaster University summer schools. She is currently the Academic Resources Advisor and Course Leader for English and History here at University Studies.
