If you're new to the Donderdag! Program, you may have some questions. We understand. These are your kids, and we know you want the best for them. We do too.
Come out to the Donderdag! 2025 Cyclocross Season Opener. Bring your kids, plenty of water, their bikes, and their helmets. You'll need to register at our sign-in table, manned by the friendliest volunteers in town. Every rider (including adults) wears a green wristband.
Got some kids without a bike? Bring them and a helmet; we have loaner bikes, and if they don't own a bike, they'll have a chance to earn one.
We ride on a variety of surfaces, including grass, sand, dirt, mud, snow, rain, and gravel, so training wheels won't work. This is no problem. The solution is to lower the seat until the kids' feet are flat on the ground, remove the pedals, and the training wheels. Your kid will be basically riding a Strider bike. We've watched many kids lose their training wheels and learn to ride without them in just 10-20 minutes. Before you know it, they'll be asking to put the pedals back on. If you don't have the tools or know-how, bring the bike and we'll help.
You'll get a chance to see the course and meet other parents who are long-time attendees of the program. Not only will your kid be invited to ride the course, but you're also invited to bring your bike and helmet. You can ride along with them. If you're not much of a bike rider, you can run alongside, being careful to watch out for other riders passing you. Sounds like too much work? Not to worry. Your kid will be surrounded by other friendly kids who will introduce them to the course and all its features—family style.
We start at 6:30 pm, and at 7:00 pm, we'll take a break and fill you in on what to expect. You'll have a chance to ask all the questions you have. You'll meet our volunteer coaches and other parents and adults who help lead the clinics. Our goal is to give your kids a chance to become physically stronger, mentally sharp, and emotionally balanced by getting outdoors and taking on the fantastic sport of Cyclocross. We ride until the last kid comes off the course.
