Don Stephens Celebration of Life

On May 28, 2026, Donald James Stephens, 70, passed from this life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a courageous 27-month battle against glioblastoma brain cancer.
Throughout his journey, Don demonstrated remarkable faith, strength and perseverance. He touched countless lives through his involvement in both his church and recovery communities where he was known for his compassion, encouragement, sense of humor and willingness to walk alongside others in their struggles and their victories.
His life reflected the love of Christ in ways both big and small and his impact will continue to be felt by all who knew him. As we grieve his passing, we also give thanks for the gift of his life and the hope we have in Christ.
He spent 40 years working as a journeyman carpenter in the greater Bay Area working on both commercial and residential projects. He could also be found working on his own home projects which often included creative and whimsical finishing touches.
Don was a man of many interests which included golf, trap shooting, hiking, biking and maintaining the facilities at his church. He always loved finding a “good deal” at local yard sales and thrift shops. In recent years, he often told Dad Jokes to friends and strangers alike. Even throughout his treatment, his humor shined through and he was a favorite of those who encountered him.
Don’s memberships included the Carpenters Union, Valley of the Moon Trap Club, Sonoma Valley Church of the Nazarene and 37 years with Alcoholics Anonymous.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Bella Vista Village II who lovingly cared for Don during the last seven weeks of his life. They treated him like family and considered it a privilege to help.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Sonoma Valley Church of the Nazarene, 18980 Arnold Drive in Sonoma.
