The details:
I am a survivor & am appalled at the laws in Oklahoma regarding domestic violence. I experienced three separate issues.
1.) I placed a police report in August of 2023 in Pittsburg County & the warrant wasn’t issued until November of 2023. To top it off they never attempted to serve it.
I called the District Attorney’s office in Creek County in the Fall of 2023 where my abuser was on probation with his former wife. He was supposed to get mandatory time if he got in any trouble.
February 2024 my abuser held me against my will for 5 hours at gunpoint. I placed a police report in McIntosh County.
2.) February 2024 I called Creek County back & asked why they haven’t done anything and was informed he was released from his probation 12/31/2023. I asked how that was possible with charges in two other counties. I was told it was an oversight on their part & there was no way to correct it because his record was expunged.
3.) March 2024 I moved to Missouri to get away from him once he made bail. However McIntosh County published my new address and within a week of his release he found me.
From March-May 2024 he stalked me until he was caught outside my apartment with a sawed off shot gun, one in the chamber and intoxicated. I called McIntosh County several times during this time pleading with them to look at his ankle monitor activity and was told to deal with my local authorities.
The ankle monitor was a condition he had to agree to in order for the bondsman to take him as a client. The bondsman did not monitor it at all & had no clue he left the state until he was arrested.
So….. there needs to be laws in place that domestic violence reports should be processed within 72 hours. Warrants need to be issued within a week & served within 48 hours of being issued.
The addresses of victims should NEVER be published on any public records site.
There needs to be recourse when an abuser is released from probation because an “oversight” on their part.
Lastly the bondsman that requires ankle monitors should have to print out a weekly activity record of the abuser to turn in each court date.
