About this Event
This workshop focuses on addressing the complexity of domestic violence and how it affects mental health. Participants will learn about the different types of abuse and how power dynamics are used in domestic violence situations. This workshop covers the basis of trauma informed care when working with domestic abuse victims and how to safety plan with them. Participants will also learn about the common mental health side effects of domestic violence while also exploring the limitations in access to care.
This free in-person event is appropriate for social service professionals and includes 2.0 free CE clock hours for social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and nurses. Continental breakfast will be available from 8:30-9:00 am. Advance registration is requested as seating for this event is limited.
Attendees are encouraged to bring personal hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc.), paper products, or diapers to donate to the Maine Township Food Pantry.
Presenter Bios
Veronika Cascio (She/Hers) is a domestic violence counselor at Life Span. She has been working with Life Span since May 2019. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and also has her MSW in Social Work. Veronika has completed 40 hours of domestic violence training. She is one of Life Span's bilingual counselors. She assists clients who speak Czech, Polish and Slovak Languages.
Dulce Torres Patino (she/hers/ella) is a domestic violence counselor at Life Span. She completed her Master’s of Social Work degree in May 2023 and Bachelor's in Psychology in May 2020. Dulce's background is in working with and supporting survivors who have experienced domestic violence. She has completed 40 hours of domestic violence training. Before working at Life Span, she worked at Kick Start, a pediatric center where she supported children with their emotional development as a social worker. During her work and internship experiences she has worked with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and adults with different needs.
This program is recognized by IDFPR as providing CE clock hours for LPC/LCPC and LSW/LCSW under license number 159.001334, LMFT under license number 168.000223, LCP under license number 268.000070, and RN/LPN/APN under license number 236.000127.
