Maria Melissa Galauran Lacerna Dona is a celebrated author, director, and playwright known for her powerful narratives that bridge history, spirituality, and Filipino identity. She is the creative force behind acclaimed works such as Chiara: The Musicale, Francesco of Assisi, Lihim ng Kumpisalan, and Fausto: The Young Genius—a film project inspired by the life of her own ancestor. A grantee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for literature, Melissa continues to shape contemporary Filipino storytelling through richly layered characters and deeply rooted cultural themes.
Melissa’s work is deeply informed by her heritage. As a descendant and cultural bearer of revolutionary hero Emilio Jacinto and the literary luminary Dr. Fausto J. Galauran—both likewise tracing lineage to Jacinto—she carries a profound legacy of intellect, resistance, and creativity. This lineage echoes in her artistic vision, which often explores the intersections of history, faith, and the Filipino soul.
