LCHS is excited to announce that we will hosting a dog walking training on July 15 from 12pm-2pm!
Interested volunteers must register in advance by emailing [email protected]. Volunteer training will be mandatory for anyone wanting to volunteer with the LCHS shelter dogs. Trainings will be held quarterly and there are limited spots available per training.
To be a volunteer you must:
-be at least 18 years old
-have the ability to work with dogs of all behavior levels and sizes
-have access to email and/or a cell phone for communication
-commit to 2 hours a month of volunteer time
Commonly asked questions:
1. Can I bring my children along to volunteer?
Kids 12 and up can volunteer with a parent. But they are required to attend the mandatory volunteer training with a parent. Children under 12 cannot volunteer with a parent when working with the dogs.
2. Can I bring my dog along?
No. Due to insurance restrictions, we do not allow dog walkers to bring their own pets to the shelter.
3. Can I bring a friend or family member that hasn't completed the volunteer training?
No. Anyone working with LCHS dogs must complete the volunteer training.
4. Am I required to train the dogs?
Our focus with dog walkers is safety for the animals, volunteers, and members of the public. More experienced volunteers will be welcome to work with staff to learn some basics of clicker training.
5. What if there wasn't space for me to register in this training session?
LCHS will be hosting dog walking trainings quarterly. If you sign up for one but there isn't space, we will move you to the waitlist for the next training. You will be contacted in advance about dates trainings will be held.
