Al Pacino puts forth a gripping performance as an inexperienced bank robber with good intentions, who quickly finds himself in a standoff with law enforcement after a botched robbery turns into a hostage situation. DOG DAY AFTERNOON brims with a raw energy that’s further highlighted by a documentary-style approach, a flawed anti-hero in Pacino, and a prescient critique of authority.
