We are excited to announce the third talk in our Winter Talks Series in partnership with @yakimavalleycollege! Talk Description:
Resource managers are increasingly recognizing the role of dam removals to reestablish the natural functions of a river complexity required to sustain native aquatic and riparian species. Lisa Ely will compare the impacts of removing the relatively small Nelson Dam on the Naches River to the well-publicized removal of large dams, such as on the Elwha and Klamath Rivers. How are they similar, how do they differ, and why? Does the river actually give a dam?
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Lisa Ely is a professor of Geology at Central Washington University who specializes in river geomorphology and teaches a range of interdisciplinary courses. She has conducted field research throughout the western U.S. and in Chile, India and Mexico. Her interests include fluvial geomorphology, stream restoration, floods, tsunamis and other natural hazards.
All talks are happening at YVC's Kaminski Conference Center (1704 W Nob Hill Blvd).
