About this Event
“Record, Remove, Replant, and Report - Documenting Invasive Flora in Urban Spaces and Driving Impactful Action”
To celebrate Earth Day and upcoming Somerville Sustainaville activities, Earthwise Aware (EwA) is offering a field training session aimed toward understanding and addressing invasive flora found in urban spaces in the Greater Boston Area.
Join Earthwise Aware (EwA) for a hands-on training to learn how to document invasive plant species using EwA’s Invasive Flora Patrol online platform and mobile app. Your contributions will help protect urban green spaces by providing critical data on the occurrence, abundance, coverage, and seasonal timing of invasive plants. This information supports EwA’s biodiversity and climate studies, informing ecological assessments and management strategies for sensitive areas.
What You’ll Learn:
- Identify some of the main invasive plants in the Boston area.
- Record and document invasive plant sightings.
- Upload photos and geo-tagged locations.
- Contribute to a centralized database accessible to researchers and policymakers.
Community participation is essential in tracking invasive flora and mitigating their impact. By using modern technology and working together, we can take meaningful conservation actions that protect our urban ecosystems.
How to Participate:
To join, you’ll need:
✅ A smartphone
✅ The EwA Invasive Flora Patrol app (supported by Anecdata) to install before the workshop. [Installation instructions here]
We look forward to seeing you at the training! Together, we can protect the health of our urban plants, wildlife, and communities.
