About this Event

Please note: this is a 3 week course and the ticket prices include the full 3 sessions. It will take place in person at Glasgow Zine Library and The Deep End.

Come along and make your own DOCMA film! A DOCMA is a 5-minute documentary film made by a team of 5 filmmakers in 5 different documentary styles.
It’s a game - designed to get our making flowing, with no previous filmmaking experience required! Roles and tasks are determined by lottery, and filmmakers follow a set of guidelines: The DOCMA Commandments. Teams will be formed, roles allocated and guidelines explained. You’ll have a week to complete your own bit of documentary magic which will then be screened to fellow participants and friends at The Deep End. Completed films will be added to the ever-growing online DOCMA archive.
The topic of this DOCMA series will focus on the effects that the Cost of Living crisis are having on us. When trying to meet our basic material needs takes up so much of our energy, we have less time for reflection and creativity. Collective care through making and thinking together can profoundly impact our wellbeing, and we look to cultivate this through collaboratively making these mini docs.
Alongside the documentaries, we'll be creating a small zine that documents the process and ideas along the way, which will be printed and made available at the screening.
To be able to progress through the course, you will need to attend both Workshop 1 & 2. You will also need something to shoot and edit on, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop. If you need to borrow these to be able to take part, please email [email protected] in advance of the event.

October 13th 2-4pm @ GZL (Workshop 1: Ideas Creation)
October 20th 2-4pm @ GZL (Workshop 2: Filmmaking)
November 3rd 2-3:15pm @ The Deep End (Screening)

CW: Discussion around how cost of living crisis is affecting us and our community

About the facilitator:

DOCMA is a collaboration between Yasmin Al-Hadithi, Anne Milne & Tomás Sheridan.
All three filmmakers are based in Scotland and formed the DOCMA Collective in 2016
with the purpose of inviting filmmakers and non-filmmakers alike to participate in
creative documentary projects.

DOCMA is a methodology. It is a tool...and a game! We run creative storytelling and filmmaking workshops at festivals and with community organisations. We offer a range of options based on your budgetary and durational needs/allowance. Our workshops and courses are open to all ages and abilities and can be delivered face-to-face or online.

Follow DOCMA on Instagram.
