The Friends of the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum (FOLCRM) invites community members to a volunteer docent training session on Wednesday, October 8, at the Education Center of the New Orleans Jazz Museum (400 Esplanade Ave.).Docents are essential to creating welcoming, engaging, and meaningful visitor experiences. This two-hour training will provide prospective volunteers with:
• Best-practice tour facilitation techniques
• Strategies for engaging visitors of all ages
• An overview of exhibit themes connected to the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum
“Docents help transform exhibits into living classrooms,” said Friends President Madlyn Bagneris. “We’re excited to equip new volunteers with the tools and confidence to engage visitors and inspire the next generation to learn from Louisiana’s civil rights legacy,” added Louisiana Civil Rights Advisory Board Chair and former New Orleans Mayor Sidney Barthelemy.
Who Should Attend
Community members with an interest in history, education, and public service. No prior museum experience is required.
