After 14 successful years, the King Challenge is now changing from major road ride and fundraising event to benefiting Krempels Brain Injury Center, to The Doc King Adaptive Tour, an all-ability ride now open to all, not reserved only for Krempels member brain injury survivors.What is the Doc King Adaptive Tour (DKAT)?
Since the beginning of the King Challenge, member participation was always part of the event. Named for Ted King’s father, Dr. Ted King, a former Krempels Member and Stroke survivor, the DKAT operated out of ride HQ while the route rides were out on the streets. Offering a series of heats on a short .5 mile loop course, and utilizing adaptive cycles in partnership with Northeast Passage, the DKAT is an all-ability friendly and safe way to get out and experience the joys of cycling.
What’s new?
The DKAT is now open to all riders who wish to experience an adaptive cycle, not just members of Krempels Brain Injury Center. A limited number of adaptive cycles will be provided by Northeast Passage, or you can bring your own. $40 registration fee and lunch is provided!
The DKAT is now the primary event and held in Portsmouth, NH instead of Stratham, NH. Road routes will not be available for 2025. The DKAT course is a .5 mile course around the Community Campus in Portsmouth, NH. In future years, we plan to offer longer loops on the open road.
The Kids Bike Ride: Between our three adaptive heats, there will be two Kids Rides. Kids 3-10 are welcome to bring their tricycles, big wheels, kick bikes, and training wheels while dressed in their favorite spooky outfits! This category requires registration. Free to participate. Food will be provided by Red's Good Vibes Food Truck!
While fundraising is encouraged and appreciated, riders no longer a need to meet a fundraising minimum to participate.
