Wherever you've roamed over the summer, let your steps take you back to Strut this week with the tunes of DJ Nomad (Lawrence Chan)!
Happy birthday to blues pianist, bandleader and composer Lovie Austin, born September 19, 1887. She was classically trained, even studying music theory at the university level, and was a major influence for Mary Lou Williams and later jazz pianists. She became a session band leader for Paramount Records with her Blues Serenaders, playing on many defining records of the Blues Era for vocalists Ma Rainey, Ida Cox, Alberta Hunter, and Ethel Waters.
ADMISSION
• FREE for Intro to Swing students • $5 for all other RCP students
• $10 at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds.
• Free admission if you've never danced before - bring your friends!
• Volunteers always dance for free, sign up for a shift at the door!
