No tariffs on dancing this week with DJ Nomad (Lawrence) - because jazz should always be cheaper than eggs!Dancer Spotlight: Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, a professional performance group formed of Savoy dancers in the late 1920s. Over the years members included Al Minns, Leon James, Frankie Manning, Willa Mae Ricker, Norma Miller, "Snooky" Beasley and many more. They toured internationally, introducing the Lindy Hop to the world, and appeared in movies such as the Marx Brothers' Day At The Races, Keep Punchin' (famous for its Big Apple routine), and of course *that* legendary scene in Hellzapoppin'.
ADMISSION
FREE for all current Swing 1, Swing 2, Queer Intro To Swing and ELEF Intro To Swing students.
• $5 for all other RCP and UBC Swing Club students.
• $10 at the door
• Free admission if you've never danced before - bring your non-dance friends and we'll show them the basics!
• No one turned away for lack of funds. Message us or sign up for a volunteer shift at the door!
Remember to bring your own water bottle. Be considerate of others’ decision to mask or not, and be prepared to put on a mask as a courtesy to your dance partner if they request it.
All RCP classes and events take place on the land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. A portion of our revenue goes to payyourrent.ca, a multi-nation Indigenous-led project to receive payment from settlers.
