About this Event
Thanks for your interest in DIY Workshop: Leather Belts!
This 2.5-hour beginner class will introduce you to the foundations of leatherworking tools and techniques through making your own vegetable tanned leather belt. We'll cover everything from purchasing and selecting leather, planning the project, dyeing the leather, hardware choices, edge-finishing, and leather care.
Makers will take home their own custom-made leather belt at the end of class!
At the end of the course makers will have firm knowledge on the following:
- Selecting and purchasing the right leathers and hardware for your project
- Patterning and cutting leather
- Dyeing leather
- Attachment methods, including gluing and stitching
- Punchin' holes, attaching hardware
- Finishing edges and leather care
Hi, I’m Steph. I’ve been an artist and maker my whole life, and specialize in ceramics, painting, pattern drafting, and leather working. I studied oil painting/multi-media art (so basically I used to glue rope to walls for 6 hours a day!) and have worked as a graphic designer and web designer for most of my career. Design is my passion, and I'm always thinking of my next project! Come hang out at the makerspace with me :). When I’m not at CCM, you can find me in the ceramics studio or trying to get over my cripping fear of heights at the rock climbing gym.
