Greenwich Peninsula is celebrating Diwali the Festival of Light with a packed schedule of live music and dance performances arts and crafts and delicious food. The evening culminates in a beautiful light parade with the procession travelling across the Peninsula illuminated by the uniquely designed lanterns.
Mark the occasion at the riverside destination by taking part in the packed programme of colourful spiritual and interactive events and workshops – suitable for all ages!
- DJ performances: From 1-9pm groove along to a fantastic lineup of DJs carefully curated by Rohan Rakhit a core member of DAYTIMERS and DJ and broadcaster for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM. The line-up features talent from across the South Asian diaspora.
- Diwali Lantern Making Workshops: 1-2:30pm and 3-4:30pm: Join artist Pragya Kumar in creating beautiful paper lanterns for a special Diwali procession. Participants can make their own eco-friendly lantern material inspired by the bright colours associated with the Festival of Light. Participants will then be able to join the twinkling parade across Greenwich Peninsula. Tickets are £5 and bookable online.
- Henna: 2-5:30pm: Get a bespoke tattoo made from natural plant-based henna or jagua ink. Tickets are £5 and bookable online.
- Akademi Dance Performance: 2-2:30pm and 4-4:30pm: Immerse yourself in the grace and beauty of South Asian dance with Akademi’s captivating performances. Experience two enchanting shows that highlight the elegance and vibrancy of this traditional dance form.
- Dhol Drumming: 5:30-5:45pm: The Dhol drum is synonymous with Bhangra music producing a loud and vibrant sound and is played with sticks called a Dugga and a Thili. Experience the electrifying energy of Dhol Drumming and enjoy the powerful beats as they fill the air and set an exhilarating tone for the evening.
- TEALIGHT - Tea and Light Ceremony: 4-8pm: Immerse yourself in the rich history of tea which for centuries has illuminated hearts and minds through ritual and togetherness.
- Riverside Lantern Parade: 6-7pm: The Diwali celebrations culminate in a dazzling and illuminating lantern parade weaving through Design District and across the Peninsula. Whether you’ve crafted a lantern in one of the earlier workshops brought your own from home or simply want to enjoy the magic everyone is welcome! Marvel as the reflections of the lights dance along the River Thames and reflect on day’s festivities.
- Canteen Food Hall & Bar: Food Vendors 11:30-9pm; Bar 10am-11pm: Greenwich Peninsula’s Canteen Food Hall & Bar is home to six independent vendors offering the latest in London’s Street food landscape. Canteen’s bar also offers a selection of local craft beers natural wines and premium spirits for unique handcrafted cocktails
