About this Event
Blue Bonsai LLC is all about making life better—one walk at a time! We design walks that turn communities into walkable wonderlands, boosting wellbeing and bringing people together. These walks aren’t just about getting your steps in; they’re about connecting with nature, meeting new friends, and soaking up the vibe of the community.
Now, let’s talk about the *Divine Vintage Story Walk*. Inspired by Sandra L. Young’s novel *Divine Vintage*, this walk takes you on an adventure through the area’s history and modern attractions. Sandra herself will share her journey, her passion for art and culture, and her mission to support those experiencing homelessness. Along the way, you’ll dive into the world of her book by visiting eight key locations and meet the hosts —Barker Mansion, Trinity Episcopal Church, Good News Vintage, Horizon Bank, Michigan City Public Library, City Hall, Lubeznik Center for the Arts, and the Old Lighthouse Museum. This walk is recommended for those 16+ years old.
The book. Oh, and don’t forget, you can find her book at local libraries or online—perfect for some pre-walk or post-walk reading! She may even have a few signed copies of Divine Vintage, Divinely Dramatic, and the Ghostly Diva with her for purchase or reach out to Sandra at sandrayoungauthor.com
The walk. Designed by Blue Bonsai LLC, this stroll is a series of short segments with frequent comfort breaks. It is a mostly flat, paved, 2-mile walk packed with goodies. You’ll enjoy art, comfy benches, stunning lakeshore views, a lighthouse, a park, and plenty of shopping stops. Time does not permit tours of Barker Mansion and the Old Lighthouse Museum, and the fee is not included in the Divine Vintage Story Walk. You may choose to tour these treasures after our story walk. Check their websites for more information.
Parking. Free parking is available on most streets in the Uptown Arts District and by Barker Mansion. Parking near the Michigan City Public Library is mid-point in our journey and convenient for your return walk to your vehicle.
Cancellations. Hoping for a warm and sunny story walk day, but we are walkers, using our pedestrianism to get us around, so we will carry on if we have a little rain, wind, and/or grey skies. We always consider the safety and comfort of our guests and may cancel, if necessary, due to inclement weather. You will be notified by email if a cancellation is necessary.
Feeling social? Add on the optional post-walk gathering at Shoreline Brewery & Restaurant! Grab a bite, sip a drink, and cheers to all the steps you’ve conquered—just remember, food and drinks are on you.
Tickets. This May 2026 event is in collaboration with the Center for Creative Solitions and is a part of the World Creativity & Innovation Week events and is free. Space is limited to 25 and registration is required.
Self-Guided Audio Tour. A self-guided audio tour of this walk is available on Otocast and is always accessible and always free. Click this link to connect:
