Divine Service: The 6th Sunday after Pentecost
Zechariah prophesies the coming of King Jesus, whose reign is about mercy, grace, life & goodness, not about wrath, power, anger or violence. Sometimes we mistakenly think that unyielding wrath guarantees change, self-condemnation begets correction, and power deserves respect. But for Christians, it is only the gracious, gentle, merciful Jesus who delivers us from our body of death. He is our divine respite in whom we know kindness, goodness & forgiveness. (Psalm 91:1-2, 9-10; Psalm 145:1-14; Romans 7:14-25a; Matthew 11:25-32)
