This lecture will focus on developing genres of music in the 20th century, and how they were shaped by influences of previous generations, specifically the 20-30 year gap phenomenon.

Why is it that most generations reject the music and style of the generation that came before, but idolize the music and styles from two generations ago? This lecture will take a deep dive into a handful of classic examples, which include:

- The Folk waves of 1930’s and 1960’s

- 1950’s Greasers’ influence on Punk

- 1980’s synth pop’s influence on the Millennials

- The Mixed Bag: How the internet has changed the nature of influence for 21st century generations

Examples from other eras will be explored as well.
