About this Event
DISSENT! Museums & Political Disagreement
As the first international conference dedicated to the subject of museums and political disagreement the aim is to offer an urgent intervention into current academic and societal debates on rising authoritarianism, the suppression of minority rights, and increasing state control over cultural practice. The conference will address the complex and often fraught relationship between museums and dissidence, examining how cultural institutions around the world have engaged with, suppressed, or fostered resistance to social, political and cultural hegemonies. The objective is to bring together academics, museum practitioners, and dissident activists to foster interdisciplinary discussions that connect museums, politics, and activism providing frameworks for collective action and for understanding the role of museums in diverse and on-going political struggles.
