About this Event
Dismantling Racism in Anti-FGM/C Movements: Path to Decolonial, Survivor-Led Advocacy examines how anti-Blackness, racial hierarchies, and harmful “severity” framings undermine solidarity and harm survivors. Drawing on Sahiyo’s Critical Intersections Research Project and a 2025 global convening, the session will highlight how racialized narratives distort understanding and response to FGM/C. A survivor-advocate panel will share lived experiences of bias across African and Asian communities, followed by small-group discussions on challenging harmful narratives and advancing survivor-centered, anti-racist approaches. Grounded in trauma-informed facilitation, this session fosters honest dialogue, solidarity, and a reimagining of the movement through an anti-colonial lens.
