Jump into some fun and creativity with Discovery Drama’s 8-week acting classes for adults this Autumn!
About this Event

Discovery Drama is offering a new 8-week drama course for adults who want to play, explore, be creative and have some fun in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Whether you have done drama before, haven't acted since you were young, or have always wanted to give it a try, this course is for you.

You don’t need previous acting experience. You don’t have to want to perform. Just bring your curiosity, openness and willingness to play.

What we'll explore

Over the eight weeks, we’ll use a range of drama exercises and practical activities to explore:

  • Drama games and improvisation
  • Character and imagination
  • Storytelling and working with text
  • Voice and physical expression
  • Confidence and spontaneity
  • Working as part of an ensemble
  • Creating characters and exploring different roles
  • Having fun and finding your own creativity

The emphasis will be on playing, experimenting and discovering rather than getting things "right". You’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace in a friendly and supportive environment.

The 8 Weeks

There is no public performance at the end of this module. The focus is on exploring drama for yourself, developing confidence and creativity, and enjoying the experience of working with a group. Any sharing of work will be informal and within the group.

Week 1: Getting Started
A gentle introduction to acting techniques and an opportunity to play, get to know the group and begin to feel comfortable in the space. We’ll explore a range of drama exercises and discover what you enjoy and would like to explore further.

Weeks 2–4: Play & Improvise
We’ll explore improvisation, ensemble work, character, storytelling and spontaneity. Through playful and practical exercises, you’ll develop confidence, imagination and the ability to listen, respond and think in the moment.

Weeks 5–8: Explore & Develop
We’ll start bringing these skills together through character work, storytelling and short pieces of text and scenes. You’ll have opportunities to explore voice, movement, relationships and intention, as well as developing your ability to take direction and work collaboratively with others.

Week 9: Optional Social Evening

To round off the course, I will organise an optional group outing to see a professional theatre production

I’ll choose a suitable production and organise the group booking. There is no additional fee for organising the evening, but everyone will purchase their own theatre ticket separately.

A lovely opportunity to celebrate the course, enjoy a night at the theatre together and perhaps get some inspiration for what we might explore in future modules!

What comes next?

This is the first of a series of flexible Discovery Drama modules that will continue into 2027.

For those who want to continue, future modules will offer the opportunity to develop performance skills, explore working with text and eventually move into rehearsal and performance.

You don’t have to commit to the whole programme. You can choose to take one module at a time and decide what you would like to do next.

You’ll come away with:

  • A chance to explore drama in a relaxed and supportive environment
  • Greater confidence and spontaneity
  • Experience in improvisation, character and storytelling
  • An opportunity to develop your voice and physical expression
  • New creative skills and ideas
  • The chance to meet other people who enjoy drama and creativity
  • And hopefully, a renewed enthusiasm for drama!
