About this Event
Let's meet outside the famous William Morris Gallery. If you haven't visited it, why not arrive earlier and do so?
Walthamstow has a childhood home of William Morris, as well as some great architecture, a neon factory, excellent murals and other street art. There are many places where we can stop and comment, and share our thoughts and impressions. Old Walthamstow is particularly worth visiting with its quiet streets, ancient church, old village atmosphere and picture- postcard buildings to look at. We won't have time for everything but we'll have a good go. Bear in mind, we always allow for the unexpected so we might take a bit longer seeing what we do see.
If you are free earlier in the day, with loads of energy, and if you like street markets, you may want to be in Walthamstow earlier to visit the longest street market in Europe before coming to the gallery and meeting us for the walk. The market opens at 8am and if you you choose to do so, arrive in Walthamstow at St James Street station. It's a short walk to the High Street and you can see the whole market walking up to Hoe Street where you need to turn left to get to William Morris Gallery; or take a bus. Of course, there will be a variety of ethnic foods to choose from at the market, so make sure you have some food there or at the gallery cafe before our adventure begins.
We also highly recommend a visit to the gallery before the walk begins.
During the walk, we will sit down at a cefe for a chill and chat and afterwards those who want to, can stay on with us for a meal, totally optional.
So why not make a day in Walthamstow of it?
A few more things:
Ours are not the usual regular walks or guided tours.
Unfortunately, this is not a funded event hence a fee.
The ticket helps us with the research and preparation, recces and arrangements needed to make it a unique experience shaped on the day by sights seen, places visited, people encountered and especially, by all the participants and what they share with us. Apart from learning about the area, we learn about and from one another. Then we go away enriched by a unique experience and maybe having made new friends.
After the walk, you can, if you want to, keep in touch with others through our social media group. We share pictures, memories and knowledge if we wish to. And if you haven't followed us on Eventbrite, please do so!
Please remember that it will cost £20 exact cash to join on the day, depending on availability.
Pictures are taken during our walks and some of the walk may be recorded so please let us know if you do not want to be included. It's up to you. We like creating memories!
As it is a walking tour, please make sure you wear suitable footwear and clothing.
You take part in our events at your own risk although we take all the precautions to assess the route prior to the walks.
If you can no longer attend please cancel your ticket or notify us so we could offer your place to someone else.
Please email us if you have any questions regarding the walk and check your mailbox before the walk.
Feel welcome to contact us to arrange a bespoke tour for your group.
We look forward to seeing you!
