About the hike leader: Mike Abel has had a lifetime interest in nature and science. A retired Air Force officer that also worked at WPAFB for nearly 25 years as a contractor in the field of remote sensing, Mike has enjoyed the Beaver Creek Wetlands for over 30 years. In 2018 he volunteered to be an observer for the Ohio Dragonfly Survey following a guided walk at Siebenthaler Fen. Over the last eight summer seasons he has made over 5,000 observations of odonata in the Beaver Creek Wetlands, Greene County, and the surrounding areas. An avid photographer, he used his equipment and skills to find and photograph over 70 species of dragonflies and damselflies which were posted to the iNaturalist website. Although not an entomologist or trained naturalist, he has learned a few things from his experiences that he will gladly share with attendees.
