Discovering our inherent Basic Goodness through mindfulness meditation, teachings and exercises. Exercises that can help us open to our world and to meet each new moment with appreciation and curiosity.
Shambhala meditation is a form of mindfulness meditation that trains us to become more present and confident despite everything that is going on around us. A technique which invites us to bravely open our hearts and cultivate gentleness towards ourselves and others. A meditation technique with its origins in a thousand-year-old wisdom tradition, adapted to our time and culture. Shambhala meditation has its foundation in Buddhism and is presented through a series of weekend courses. This is Shambhala Level 1, the first of five weekends in the Shambhala Level 1-5 training.
Alongside the core Shambhala teachings, this weekend will include additional experiential elements drawing from theatre, movement, and relational mindfulness. These exercises are designed to help participants directly explore key themes such as presence and Basic Goodness in a felt and embodied way. No previous experience is required — the emphasis is on curiosity, connection, and discovering insight through experience.
The weekend is open to all.
Richard Danum
Richard read law at Cambridge University and qualified as a lawyer at Magic Circle firm Linklaters. He has since changed career, working as a professional actor, starring in British independent film and on television. Alongside this, over the last decade, he has specialised as an executive coach and facilitator working with a number of high-profile clients around the world. Richard first came to the London Shambhala Meditation Centre in 2010, he is now one of our Meditation Instructors and also beginning his journey as a Dharma Teacher. Richard is founder of The Mindful Group, bringing Mind Training and Mindfulness to businesses, and is also a qualified Co-Active Coach.
Alex Paterson
Alex Paterson is from Canada, where he worked as an actor before moving to London and then Sweden, where he has been living for over 30 years. Alex founded the Shambhala Stockholm Centre in 1994 and has been an active member and teacher there ever since. Alex has been teaching theatre at St. Erik’s Gymnasium, Stockholm for 26 years. He teaches Shambhala Training (both the Heart of Warriorship and the Sacred Path) and Buddhist programs and workshops combining meditation, theatre, and play.
