For more than 20 years, the Foundation for the Contemporary Family and UCI have been committed to bringing high-quality in-person, innovative clinical training in couples and family therapy to Southern California.

Disarming the Covert Narcissist addresses treatment in both individual and couples therapy. Covert narcissism rarely looks like the arrogance and grandiosity we expect. It hides behind vulnerability, "super-suffering," and a constant need for reassurance—making it one of the hardest presentations to accurately assess and treat.

To help us meet that challenge, we are delighted to welcome Wendy T. Behary, international expert on narcissism and Founder of the Cognitive Therapy Center of New Jersey and The Schema Therapy Institutes of NJ-NYC-DC. She is the person other therapists call when these cases stall. Wendy provides clinicians the theoretical grounding and practical tools to understand, empathize with, and effectively help this challenging population and their partners. Her disarmingly straightforward, accessible style, paired with deep clinical experience with this often misunderstood clientele, makes this a rare and valuable training opportunity.

Informed by Schema Therapy, this workshop offers a conceptual framework and practical skills for therapist who want to:

• Conceptualize covert narcissism and formulate a treatment plan for individual and couples therapy
• Identify patterns and address the early trauma/attachment ruptures beneath the "super-suffering" coping modes
• Effective strategies to help clients let go of self-defeating life patterns and begin to develop adaptive responses
• Recognze and treat the subjugation and self-sacrifice often carried by partners
• Apply innovative schema therapy interventions for covert narcissists and their partners, including quieting and converting inner critic modes, mode dialogues, imagery rescripting, and behavioral pattern breaking
