— The nationally acclaimed Comedians with Disabilities Act (CWDA), in partnership with Max Higbee Center, brings its one‑of‑a‑kind comedy showcase to Bellingham, Washington in conjunction with Disability Pride Weekend events.
Also on the Friday Night standup bill is Brad Klein, the CODA Comedian
Founded in Northern California in 2010, the Comedians with Disabilities Act (CWDA) was created to amplify comedic voices that had long been marginalized. Over the last 15 years, CWDA has performed for thousands of audiences of all abilities at colleges, comedy clubs, corporate events, festivals, and everywhere laughter is welcome. Currently, the troupe is working on their first comedy-docu special, Comedians with Disabilities Act: Going Beyond The Punchlines, which will have a work-in-progress screening on July 24 as a warm-up to the comedy showcase later that night. Max Higbee Center is a grassroots organization founded by educators and families of people with developmental disabilities who wanted quality recreation opportunities in Whatcom County. Max Higbee Center supports and empowers teens and adults with developmental disabilities to build community, friendships, happiness, life skills and health through recreation.

Nina G and Michael Beers will facilitate a Disability Pride workshop at Max Higbee Center (open to the public). The workshop precedes an open mic opportunity at the New Prospect Theater, celebrating the perspective of the Disabled community at 6pm Saturday night. Sign-up priority given to

Reservations for seating for all shows is recommended on the New Prospect Theater website.
Workshop and all performances are free with a suggested donation. Proceeds to benefit Max Higbee Center. Pre-registration for the workshop is suggested but not required.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Michael Beers
Michael Beers is a comedian and professional speaker. He won the Norman G. Brooks Comedy Competition at the Hollywood Improv in 2005. He was also the previous winner of Funny Fest (Calgary Comedy Festival) and has opened for comedians like Gilbert Gottfried. He is a sought-after keynote speaker on topics like humor, disability advocacy, education and community building.
Nina G
Nina G is a comedian, author, comedy historical consultant, and professional speaker. She is the author of Stutterer Interrupted: The Comedians Who Almost Didn’t Happen and Bay Area Stand‑Up Comedy: A Humorous History. Her debut comedy special, Nina G: Stutterer Interrupted, premiered in 2024. Nina has been featured in Variety, NPR’s 51%, HuffPost’s Culture Shifters, BBC’s Ouch, Psychology Today, PBS radio, Tedx talks, and numerous daytime talk shows and podcasts. She regularly headlines comedy venues and delivers keynotes for corporations, colleges, conferences, and community events.
Mean Dave
Mean Dave is a San Francisco Bay Area favorite and regular at local comedy clubs like the Punch Line and Cobb's. He has opened for comedians like Josh Blue, Eddie Pepitone and Nick Kroll. and has performed at colleges across the US. Dave has been in recovery for over a decade, which he weaves into his humor. “Not a lot of people know that being an addict in recovery is covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act.” Mean Dave’s role in the Comedians with Disabilities Act helps to bring this message to audiences.
Brad Klein, The CODA Comedian
Brad is a proud CODA (Child of Deaf Adults). He performs comedy in both English and American Sign Language (ASL), all about growing up in both the Deaf & Hearing communities. Brad has performed all over the world, including Laugh Factory, Comix Roadhouse, and the Floodwater Comedy Festival. His funny videos with his Deaf parents have generated millions of views online.
