About Hootso
Hootso is a public arts initiative and conceptual art project under the direction of poet Jake Skeets. The name hootso, the Diné word for meadow, refers to an open field and shared ground where people gather, pass through, work, and rest.
Rooted in community and process, Hootso supports artistic practice as a public and relational act. Often through collaboration and partnership, the initiative supports projects that move across forms and spaces. Each project unfolds as part of a larger endeavor where gathering, dialogue, and exchange function as artistic forms. As such, Hootso is intentionally non-institutional and operates as a living artistic installation. Its work centers Diné and Indigenous perspectives while creating space for learning, exchange, and future-making through art and writing
