Dr. Paul Willis
Palaeontologist
Abstract: In this entertaining presentation, Paul pulls apart a BBQ chicken looking for features that birds have inherited from their dinosaurian ancestors. Along the way Paul delves into the history of the science of dinosaurs and expands on the modern science behind reconstructing the tree of life.
Bio: Born in England, Paul migrated to Australia with his family in 1973. He has had a lifelong interest in both fossils and trains. He studied zoology and geology at Sydney University before transferring to UNSW to complete a PhD in vertebrate palaeontology looking at Australian crocodilians. In 1997 he joined the ABC as a cross-media trainee science reporter and spent 14 years with Auntie, mostly as a presenter/producer on the Catalyst program. In 2011 Paul moved his family to Adelaide to take on the position of CEO at The Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus), which he held for 6 years. Now retired, Paul spends most of his time restoring an old railway station with his partner and occasionally taking railway tours through the fossil sites of Queensland.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A PUBLIC PLANETARIUM SESSION.
