According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, “Long ago, dinosaurs left footprints in the mud at the edge of an ancient ocean. Today, you can walk in their tracks in the bed of the Paluxy River. This long trip to the past is just a short drive from Fort Worth.”Just outside of Glen Rose, Texas, the so-called Dinosaur Capital of Texas, lies an adventure waiting to happen. Dinosaur Valley State Park sits on 1,587 acres alongside the scenic Paluxy River and is home to many dinosaur tracks made by the ancient Acrocanthosaurus and Sauroposeidon.
We will be hiking the Cedar Brook Outer Loop and then spend sometime discovering the dinosaur tracks in the river bed. This long trail takes you on a looping tour of the park atop limestone ridges crowned by cedar brakes. The trail is about 7.5 miles long.
We will meet at the main track site (Dinosaur foot #2 in the Park map image that I have posted on this event)
Please make sure you make reservations for a day pass at your earliest if you do not want to be turned back as parking is limited.
Group Lunch:
After the hike, we will get together for lunch at a location TBD
