About this Event
Do you work or volunteer in a community archive?
As part of SCA’s Community Stories-Community Archives project, funded by the NLHF, we are offering a free in-person training day on basic digital archive skills including digital preservation, digitisation and sharing digital collections.
Lunch will be provided and tea and coffee available throughout. Places are limited and offered on a first come first served basis.
Although not essential, as there will be some practical demonstrations, participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or other device.
We have a small number of bursaries available to assist with travel costs to the event. Please email [email protected] for more information.

Info: This session will cover how to digitally catalogue your collection using the Archives Hub template which can be uploaded to both the Archives Hub and Your Scottish Archives online portals.

Sharing Digital Collections

Info: This session will cover what you should consider when sharing your digital material including copyright and data protection. There will be time for questions.

Introduction to OMEKA for online exhibitions
Host: Dr Niamh Moore, Edinburgh University
Info: Omeka is a free, open-source web publishing platform for creating, managing, and sharing digital collections and online exhibits. In this session Dr Niamh Moore from Edinburgh University along with Dr Martina Karels, St Francis College, New York and Dr Mary Hanlon, Okanagan College, BC, both visiting Research Fellows at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, will show how it can be used to showcase your collections. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop so they can fully participate in this session by creating an online exhibition.
