Dig + Disconnect is Miyagi Records’ weekly Friday workshop series built around slow listening, creative practice, and community time.

Each session opens up a different entry point into music culture — from digging and taste-making to open decks, zine-making, guest selectors, and hands-on skill-building. It’s for collectors, DJs, artists, listeners, and anyone looking to step away from the scroll and reconnect with sound in real life.

This quarterly writing workshop is a community-centered creative experience hosted in a record shop, where participants bring a vinyl record of their choice OR utilize a record that’s in the space to serve as inspiration. Using elements of the record—such as the cover art, a favorite song, or the overall emotional tone of the album—participants engage in guided writing prompts designed to spark storytelling, reflection, and self-expression. The workshop creates an inviting environment where music becomes a gateway into writing, making the creative process feel more accessible, personal, and engaging.

The purpose of this workshop is to cultivate a space where creativity, nostalgia, and community intersect. It recognizes the deep emotional and cultural connections people have with music and uses that as a foundation to encourage artistic exploration and confidence. This experience serves writers, creatives, music lovers, and community members of all levels—especially those who may not traditionally identify as writers but are seeking meaningful ways to express themselves. Each session is structured to include individual reflection, guided writing time based on key components of the record, and optional group sharing, allowing participants to connect with both their own creativity and the collective energy of the group. Participants are encouraged to either bring their favorite vinyl or browse through Miyagi’s inventory for inspiration.
