At the first of our free public talks of the season, on Monday the 29th September, the Irish Astronomical Society is pleased to introduce documentary filmmaker Seán Ó Cearrúlláin to present a screening of a new documentary about the amateur astronomers of Ireland. All are welcome.
Title: “Die Hard Astro – the Human Drive to Unravel the Universe”
This documentary film puts a face to the astronomers of Ireland who continue to pursue their passion for the cosmos despite myriad challenges they must overcome daily to catch a glimpse of the night sky. They show that the passion of exploring and learning about the cosmos is not just for a select few, but rather, astronomy is for anyone willing to take the time to "look up"...
He says "Most astronomy documentaries are all about "space" and what's up there, very few if any, put a face to the people doing astronomy, telling the story of their "why" and the "struggles" they face and overcome”
Sean is delighted to present his latest documentary for screening to the IAS on 29th of September and looks forward to taking any questions in a short Q&A after screening. This film is a Pilot to seed the funding needed for create a future documentary that will explore and bring to life the history and accomplishments of Irish astronomy dating back centuries, all support and feedback very welcome so a better presentation for funding can be made to Screen Ireland, the BFI and Swedish & Norwegian Film Institutes.
