When Die Fledermaus premiered in 1874, this humorous and tuneful work by waltz king Johann Strauss II was set in 19th-century Vienna. In this 60th anniversary celebration of opera at DePauw, director Janani Sridhar brings to life the glamorous world of 1950s New York City—where the elite live in luxury and the parties never seem to end! It’s a world full of secrets, surprises and plenty of opportunities for mischief and mistaken identity. With special guest appearances each night, this new DePauw production with a twist is an event not to be missed!
All performances will be sung in English. Musical direction is by Orcenith Smith, with choreography by Marcus Hayes, costumes by Caroline Good, and sets and lighting design by Jaye Beetem.
