One of the massive issues affecting our world currently is human migration of epic proportions. Mass migrations from every part of the world to other parts are happening, some by choice, most by necessity and force of circumstances. These humans, when in other places, form the diaspora, and humanity is having collective new experiences.
Diaspora refers to the dispersion and migration of a people from their homeland and the communities they form in new lands.
The Diaspora Film Festival (DFF) provides audiences with an opportunity to experience the cultural mosaic of the present world through the medium of cinema. The DFF explores themes of migration, immigration, and cultural diversity by showcasing works of both established and emerging filmmakers. The festival pays special attention to independent Canadian filmmakers from ethnic minorities.

Paivand’s mission is to foster dialogue and elevate understanding and mutual respect among all cultures, with a special emphasis on human rights. In organizing this film festival, Paivand aims to promote this dialogue by highlighting the shared diasporic experience of people from different cultures. Our hope is that this event will encourage participants to share, interact and learn from each other.
The Saskatoon Diaspora Film Festival would like to thank Remai Modern, the City of Saskatoon Diversity Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, Saskatchewan Lotteries, SaskCulture, Festival CINERGIE, Saskatoon Open Door Society, and The Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan for their support in this year’s festival.
