About this Event

A monthly poetry workshop with varied writing prompts and shared discussion.

***PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE FIRST FRIDAY FOR MAY***

THE WORKSHOP:

These workshops, led by Hannah Norris, will encourage you to see and hear poetry everywhere: shopping lists, WhatsApps, pub toilet graffiti and conversations overheard on public transport. Together, we will find inspiration by unlocking clues from the works of traditional and contemporary poets, as well as mining from our own experiences and surroundings.

You will be warmly welcomed to this supportive community, whether it’s your first time writing poetry or you have been writing it for many years.

The sessions will take place on the first Thursday of every month and each month will have a different theme and set of prompts, which you are welcome to interpret as loosely as you like - or ignore altogether, in favour of your own creative impulses. Freedom is key here!

*Age related guidance: This workshop is intended for adults (18+). Diamonds and Rust is a space for open, honest creative expression and discussions may explore mature themes and personal experiences.

THE TUTOR:

Hannah Norris (she/her) describes herself as an ‘obsessive diary writer’ who turns this material into poetry. She started writing poetry to help navigate her grief following a bereavement.

Hannah also loves to write about the foul-mouthed women in her family and the more mundane parts of life, from batch cooking to soulless retail parks. Hannah’s poetry has been featured in Left Lion, JARG, Streetcake, Postscript, Moonflake Press, Black Cat Poetry Press and on BBC Radio Merseyside.

Hannah enjoys writing poetry that rips up the rulebook around rhyme, stanzas and line breaks. Her favourite poet is Hera Lindsay Bird.

She published her first poetry pamphlet (Incognito Window) in autumn 2025 from work created on the GOBS Collective residency, with support from Bad Betty Press, the Arvon Foundation and Arts Council England.

THE DETAILS:

This event has now move to The Studio at Broadway Cinema. It's a very friendly session which often spills out into the pub after.

No experience needed; all welcome!
