About this Event

Dialogue of Crayons: Bridging Generations and Communities

This exhibition explores how creative expression becomes a lifeline for those enduring unimaginable trauma. Rooted in the reflections of Holocaust Memorial Day, it seeks to bridge generations and communities through art that speaks across time, place, and shared human vulnerability.

Drawing inspiration from I Never Saw Another Butterfly and Waging Peace: The Children’s Drawings, the exhibition brings together artwork created by those in Holocaust concentration camps and drawings made by children who survived the genocide in Sudan. Placing these works in conversation invites participants into an honest, compassionate dialogue about trauma, survival, and the enduring human need to create.

The theme of this event is connection: between generations, between communities, and between histories that must never be forgotten. This is not an act of comparison; no life, story, or experience is minimised. Instead, we offer a few examples of humanity and personal resilience from those who documented the atrocities of their time. We ask all attendees to engage with empathy, care, and a deep respect for the individuals whose voices and visions are shared here.

Iftar Refreshments
As the event takes place during Ramadan, we will open with light nibbles, dates, and juice for those breaking their fast, and for all attendees to share in a moment of community.

Explore the Exhibition
Begin the evening by immersing yourself in the artwork on display. You’ll have time to move through the exhibition at your own pace and engage with the pieces that speak to you.

Facilitated Conversation
We will then gather for a guided discussion on how creativity supports healing, resilience, and storytelling. This conversation invites reflection, connection, and shared understanding.
