Diabetes Education Day for Schools
About this Event
This one-day training course is designed for school staff supporting children and young people with Type 1 diabetes in Bridgend.
Delivered by the Paediatric Diabetes Team, the session provides comprehensive, practical education to build confidence in managing diabetes safely within the school environment. Moving to a group-based format allows for more in-depth learning, hands-on scenarios, and opportunities to explore real-life situations that staff may encounter.
What to expect:
- Understanding Type 1 diabetes and its management in school
- Blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration
- Recognising and managing hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
- Supporting pupils with food, carbohydrate awareness, and physical activity
- Practical case discussions and scenario-based learning
- Opportunities to ask questions and share experiences with other schools
Training is interactive, supportive, and designed to equip staff with the knowledge and confidence needed to fulfil their duty of care.
We recommend that schools identify key staff members to attend initially. Further sessions will be available bi-monthly for additional staff as required.
Booking:
Register your place via Eventbrite. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If registering multiple staff members, please ensure a separate booking is completed for each individual, as capacity is limited. Attendance is only confirmed with a valid ticket.
If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your place as soon as possible and inform our Specialist Nurse ([email protected]). As places are limited and demand is expected to be high, we aim to maximise attendance at each session and will likely operate a waiting list.
