Dia de los Muertos: Make your own Ofrenda

Join Afrodesiac Collective for a warm and meaningful evening inspired by Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) — a Mexican tradition centered on remembering, honoring, and celebrating loved ones who have passed away.
We’ll gather over Mexican hot chocolate and traditional Pan de Muerto as we learn about the meaning and traditions behind Día de los Muertos and create our own personal ofrendas.
An ofrenda, or offering altar, is traditionally created to welcome and remember loved ones who have passed. It can include photographs, flowers, candles, meaningful objects, favorite foods, and other items that help tell the story of the person being remembered.
For this workshop, we invite you to bring printed photos of loved ones or pets you have lost and would like to honor.
Together, we’ll create small personal ofrendas while learning about the symbolism behind some of the elements commonly associated with Día de los Muertos — including marigolds, candles, papel picado, photographs, food, color, and storytelling.
But this evening is about more than making something beautiful.
It’s an opportunity to slow down, remember someone important to you, and share their story if you feel comfortable doing so.
Maybe you bring a photo of a grandparent whose stories you never want to forget. A parent, sibling, friend, or family member you still think about often. Or perhaps a beloved pet who was part of your family.
There will be space throughout the evening for anyone who would like to share a memory, a funny story, something they loved about that person or animal, or simply why they chose to honor them.
Sharing is always optional. You are equally welcome to come, create, listen, and quietly reflect.
No crafting experience or prior knowledge of Mexican culture is needed. We’ll guide you through the process, provide the materials for your ofrenda, and explore the cultural meaning behind the tradition along the way.
Come solo, bring a friend, bring your partner, or come with someone who knows the person you’re remembering.
You’ll leave with your own handmade ofrenda — and hopefully with a deeper understanding of a tradition that reminds us that remembering those we love can be joyful, colorful, communal, and full of life.
Please Bring:
Please bring 1–3 printed photographs of a loved one, family member, friend, or pet who has passed away and whom you would like to honor on your ofrenda.
If you have a small photocopy or printed image rather than an original photograph, even better.
You’re also welcome to bring a small meaningful item connected to them — such as a handwritten note, tiny keepsake, favorite candy, flower, or another object that feels appropriate for your altar.

- Time: 6:30–8:30 PM
- Skill Level: Beginner-friendly
- Class Size: 4–12 participants
- Duration: Approx. 2 hours
- What’s Included: Ofrenda-making materials, decorative supplies, candles/decorative elements, Mexican hot chocolate, and Pan de Muerto
- What to Bring: 1–3 printed photos of a loved one or pet you would like to honor, plus any small personal keepsake you’d like to include
- What to Wear: Comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting a little crafty in — aprons can be provided
- Pricing: Price is per person. Each guest must have their own ticket, or you can purchase the two-ticket special if available.
- BYOB: Welcome if you’d like to bring an additional beverage to enjoy during the workshop
- Experience Required: None! No crafting experience or prior knowledge of Mexican culture is necessary.

If you need to cancel between 48 hours and 5 days before the event, we’ll offer a credit toward a future Afrodesiac Collective experience.
