Come to the “Dia De Los Muertos” mass at noon on Nov.2nd at the Historic Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit. Mass will be bilingual, mostly Spanish. I have created an “Ofrenda” altar in honor of Derrick that will be a part of the Dia de Los Muertos exhibit. There will be many “ofrenda” altars on exhibit during this time. The mass will include marimba. Following the mass there will be Mexican Hot Chocolate, Pan de Muerto and festivities in the plaza in front of the church.
The Dia de Los Muertos Exhibit will be open from Oct. 20 – Nov. 3rd at Ste. Anne. It will be open after masses on the weekends and by special appointment for tours. I mention this, just in case you can’t come to the mass on Nov. 2nd.
As the days progress, I will be posting in this event page various aspects of a Dia de Los Muertos Ofrenda. Much of the history is pre-Columbian, so there are many Aztec symbols included in ofrendas, such as the Monarch Butterfly, the Calavera (skull), and one of my favorites, Xoloizquintle. All of these, and more, will be a part of the Ofrenda I made for Derrick.
