DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS: CELEBRANDO LA VIDA
A COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION AND ALTARES
La Peña commemorates the annual Día de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead with a group exhibition of artwork and traditional altares (altars). This vibrant celebration honors the lives of loved ones who have passed, embracing death as a part of the cycle of life and memory.
Día de Los Muertos is a deeply rooted tradition originating from indigenous Mexican cultures, where families create ofrendas (offerings) to welcome the spirits of the deceased. These altars are adorned with marigolds, sugar skulls, photographs, and personal mementos, representing the unique lives of those being remembered. The festival embodies a joyous reflection on the fleeting nature of life, filled with art, food, and music to celebrate the continuing presence of those who have passed on.
This year Dia de Los Muertos is dedicated to Lucy Horta and Eddie Canales.
